Mumbai Police has arrested five persons in connection with the alleged fraud in the COVID vaccination campaign at a posh housing society in Kandivali in late May. A few days ago, members of the society lodged a police complaint, following which the Mumbai Police and the BMC started an independent investigation into the vaccination drive.
No permission of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was taken for the private vaccination camp held at Hiranandani Heritage Society in Kandivali West on May 30, said Dilip Sawant, Additional Commissioner of Police, Mumbai North. The arrests of Mahendra Kuldeep Singh (39), Sanjay Gupta (25), Chandan Singh (32), Karim Akbar Ali (21) and Nitin More (32) have been made in this case.
The Hiranandani Heritage Society, located in Kandivali West, has 435 flats in three residential towers, with about 390 residents, including in-house workers such as security personnel, domestic help and drivers, who were part of the vaccination drive. It is alleged that vaccination documents were tampered with.
Mumbai Police is now investigating whether the same group or other unauthorized persons have organized similar illegal vaccination camps at other housing complexes in Mumbai after the fraud case came to light this week. Police is conducting thorough interrogation of all the accused arrested in this case.
