US President Joe Biden called the mass killing against Armenians a ‘genocide’, saying the move could worsen relations between the United States and Turkey. According to reports from Xinhua, the White House said in a statement released on Saturday, “The American people respect all Armenians who were killed in the genocide that began 106 years ago.”
He said that we are not doing this to blame anyone, but to ensure that it does not happen again.
Biden is the first US president to use the term ‘genocide’ on mass murder against the Armenians by the Ottoman Empire. In 2019, both congressional boards passed resolutions recognizing atrocities as ‘genocide’.
