6.3 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia, no tsunami warning issued

Jakarta: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s western province of Aceh on Saturday with out inflicting large waves, the nation’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Company stated.

The company had earlier issued a warning of an undersea earthquake measuring 6.5 earlier than revising it, Xinhua information company reported.

Based on studies, the earthquake struck at 12:19 pm Jakarta time (0519 GMT), with its epicenter positioned 372 km southwest of Kailang metropolis, the capital of Aceh Jaya regency, and at a depth of 12 km.

The company stated the earthquake was unlikely to set off a tsunami.

Indonesia is weak to earthquakes as a consequence of its location in a weak earthquake-prone zone known as the “Pacific Ring of Fire”.
