75 lakh swindled from businessman; Inquiry for Youth Congress leader

Alappuzha: The probe into the Youth Congress leader who swindled money from a businessman in the belief that he could fix a bank loan of crores is in full swing. Youth Congress Ambalapuzha constituency president Nuruddin Koya, who lives in a rented house in Shilpashila in the Alappuzha municipal office ward, has been given the nod. Ernakulam Central Police arrested Geo Mathew (40) on the first charge of Idukki Vathikudi Konnakammalil Divamedu Narikkunnil house.

Harris, a native of Vadanappilly, Thrissur, allegedly swindled Rs 75 lakh from Maharashtra Bank on the pretext of getting a loan of Rs 11 crore at 4% interest. To get the loan, he demanded a fixed deposit of Rs 50 lakh in a bank and a commission of Rs 25 lakh. 75 lakh handed over to Geo Mathew. Nuruddin Koya, a member of the bank’s board of directors, and Binomol, Sunil Kumar, Arjun Kumar, Babu, Riyaz and Karthik, wife of Geo Mathew, also met Harris at a hotel in Ernakulam.

Some paper was signed by Harris who went to Maharashtra for the loan amount. The loan was not available even after a week delay. Kovid informed that the bank was closed due to. Following this, Harris returned. When he reached home and contacted the gang, he received death threats. Harris filed a complaint following the same.

Nuruddin Koya has been living in the MO ward for three years. Despite the landlord asking her to vacate the house, she continues to live under threat.

Nuruddin Koya, who was registered in the voters’ list at the address of the rented house, was the Congress candidate in the municipal elections. He has also competed in Pallathuruthy before. It is alleged that the group swindled lakhs under the guise of the ‘Alleppey Share and Care’ Charitable Society, which was formed by booking a room in a guesthouse during the floods.
