Srinagar: The agitation intensified in Ladakh UT on Thursday after the Leh apex physique and local weather activist Sonam Wangchuk introduced a border march on April 7.
Local weather activist Wangchuk has described the choice to march to the border as a “Gandhian way of protest” to guard the delicate setting and the pursuits of the individuals of the area.
The Leh apex physique is agitating to present statehood to Ladakh and embody the area within the sixth Schedule of the Structure to guard the setting.
The protesters have determined to proceed the continued starvation strike, which the Leh apex physique mentioned will likely be adopted by a sequence of starvation strikes by girls, youth, spiritual leaders and elders.
It’s proposed to take the April 7 protest march to Changthang, which borders China.
The leaders mentioned, “It will be like Gandhiji's Dandi March.”
Local weather activist, Sonam Wangcho, has alleged that the Changthang pastures, well-known for producing pashmina wool, are being pressured to promote their animals as industrialists have taken over 20,000 acres of pasture land to arrange their vegetation.
“We do not want solar energy at the cost of livelihood and displacement of our people. They are snatching our land because there are no security measures”, Wangchuk alleged.
He accused the BJP of going again on the guarantees made to the individuals of Ladakh.
“We were shocked when the Union Home Ministry outright rejected our demands on March 4. We are demanding fulfillment of our rights and promises. Parliamentary elections have been announced and BJP is again making various promises to the people, but who will buy these promises this time”, he mentioned.
The Ladakh Lok Sabha seat was gained by BJP candidate Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in 2019.
