Thrissur: The BJP is expecting more changes from the Congress when the candidate is announced. That is why the BJP is pushing for the list to be delayed. Even as the controversy over the candidates continues, efforts are being made to consider if anyone from the Congress comes in without getting a seat.
RSP candidate Mohammad Nahas, who last contested for the UDF in Kaypamangalam, joined the BJP on Saturday. The BJP is looking forward to the protests and resignations over the Congress candidate list. Leaders say Congress leaders will attend. The day before, KPCC general secretary Vijayan Thomas had joined the BJP.
The discussion on the BJP candidates is in Delhi. Before the announcement, E Sreedharan Palakkad, A Nagesh Puthukkad and AN Radhakrishnan Manalur started campaigning. The state leadership is of the view that Sobha Surendran, who has publicly declared that she will not contest, should not be given a seat.
The decision has been made to give first priority to those who are leaving. Though he did not win, it is hoped that more Congressmen will come if he gets the seat. So the announcement will be in two or three stages. The unwillingness of the constituent party leaders to contest has also been a headache for the leadership. Thushar Vellapally and PC Thomas, who said they would not contest, are being put under pressure by the central leadership.
