Bypolls: Voting for four assembly seats in Tripura

Agartala: Voting for the by-polls to 4 meeting seats in Tripura started at 7 am on Thursday amid tight safety. An election official gave this info. He stated that polling has began at 221 polling stations in Agartala, City Bardowali, Surma and Jubrajnagar seats, which is able to proceed until 5 pm.

On this election, all eyes will likely be on City Bardowali seat, from the place Chief Minister Manik Saha is contesting. A complete of 25 contingents of central forces have been deployed apart from ‘Tripura State Rifles (TSR)’ in view of the polling. A complete of 1,89,032 voters are eligible to train their franchise within the 4 constituencies.

Bypolls to Agartala and City Bardowali seats are being held after Sudip Roy Burman and Ashish Saha joined the Congress, who gained the elections on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tickets. BJP MLA from Soorma seat, Ashish Das, was disqualified after he rebelled in opposition to the get together, because of which the bypoll is being held on this seat. The by-election is being held in Jubrajnagar seat because of the demise of CPI(M) MLA Ramendra Chandra Devnath. Counting of votes will happen on June 26.
