Central investigative agencies do not have CCTV; Supreme Court slams govt

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has criticized the Center for not implementing the order to install CCTV in Central Investigation Agency offices. The central government has reacted sharply to the need for more time to install CCTV in the offices of the CBI, NIA and Narcotics Control Bureau.

The bench, headed by Justice RF Nariman, asked Solicitor General Thushar Mehta why the order was not enforced. He responded that the order would have far-reaching repercussions. ‘What is the impact?’ We are not afraid of repercussions. The order was issued to protect civil liberties. I understand that the government is reluctant to implement it, “said Justice Nariman.

It was ordered in December 2019 to install CCTV in all police stations and central agency offices.
