New Delhi: The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Friday mentioned it has signed 5 main capital acquisition contracts value Rs 39,125.39 crore for the procurement of army tools, together with MiG-29 plane, Shut-in Weapon System (CIWS). “These aero-engines are expected to meet the requirement of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to maintain operational capability for the remaining service life of the MiG-29 fleet,” the ministry mentioned.
It added that the aero-engine will likely be manufactured below a Transfer of Expertise (TOT) license from the Russian OEM.
“This will help in increasing the indigenous content of future repair and overhaul (ROH) works of RD-33 aero-engines,” the ministry mentioned.

“The project is likely to generate employment of nine lakh man days in the joint venture unit and about 135 lakh man days in supporting industries (including MSMEs) in the country,” the ministry mentioned.
A contract value Rs 988.07 crore has additionally been signed with BrahMos Aerospace Personal Restricted (BAPL) for the procurement of ship-borne BrahMos system. The system is the Navy's main weapon for conducting maritime strike operations towards numerous frontline warships.
“The system is capable of hitting land or sea targets from extended ranges with pinpoint accuracy at supersonic speeds,” the ministry mentioned.
