New Delhi: The ‘Madhyam’ newspaper is trying to discredit the CPI (M) for carrying out the most sustainable relief and rehabilitation work to help the victims of the North East Delhi riots. The shooting comes as the Youth League is embroiled in a Katwa fund fraud case. The ‘Media One’ channel also took over the news published under the misleading headline.
It was the CPI (M) that helped everyone across the community. The relief operation began on March 1 last year, shortly after the riots subsided. In the first phase, food, utensils, clothing, medicine and legal aid were provided.
Direct assistance was provided to 6,130 people from 1,126 families. Delivering help from house to house created confidence in the people. More than 100 families were provided with LPG cylinders and stoves. A legal aid team has been formed under the leadership of the All India Lawyers Union.
The families of the 54 killed were given Rs 1 lakh each. Aid of Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 was provided to the injured. Relief work continued during the Kovid lockdown. 2,100 people were regularly fed. 50 people were given pushcarts to do business. Sewing machines were distributed to women. Helped to start shops. 52 children are given Rs. 2,000 every three months for education. Study materials are also distributed.
Teachers were assigned to help the children. Work is in progress to establish a center for vocational skills development of youth, including girls.
