Sukhwanti of Tiara village of Robertsganj in Sonbhadra district has been cooking wood stove for four months. Sukhwanti says, ‘Till the cost of the stove and cylinder was recovered, not a single rupee was subsidized. Now the subsidy is coming but the money to fill the cylinder is increasing. How to get a refill? ‘ In the last six months, the price of LPG has increased by Rs 225 but the subsidy coming to the account has not increased by even one rupee. In such a situation, how should the poor cylinders be refilled?
Nagina Devi of PPganj town of Gorakhpur district took Ujjwala’s connection on August 9, 2019. The last refill was on September 10 last year. Nagina Devi says that at the time of Corona, the price of three cylinders came into account, which led to the refill. Now there is a compulsion to cook on wood and dung cake. ‘ More than 30 thousand fires have been extinguished in 95 thousand 737 connections of Ujjwala in Shamli district. Sitara, an Aryapuri resident, states that initially the cost of the cylinder was Rs 550. Subsidies of up to about 250 rupees were coming. The cylinder used to cost 300 rupees. Premchand, owner of Kairana Gas Service, says that “30-40 percent consumers are not getting refills due to reduced subsidies”.
