Election result: BJP suffers setback

New Delhi
The CPI (M) Politburo has termed the election results in four major states – Kerala, Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam – as a major setback for the BJP. The BJP has failed miserably to garner popular support despite its best efforts, extreme spending, misuse of central agencies and manipulation of electoral systems for extreme communal polarization.

The result of the election will further strengthen the popular movements and struggles in the country for the betterment of the living conditions of the people and for the preservation of the secular-democratic character of the Republic of India.

PB celebrated the great victory of the Left in Kerala. PB thanked the people of Kerala for once again trusting the Left and electing them to form the next government. This is the first time in four decades that the current government has been re-elected. For the Left to win better than in the last election.

The people of Kerala voted for the performance of the government, for the alternative policies adopted, for the excellence in dealing with natural calamities and epidemics, for welfare work and for safeguarding the secular democratic harmony structure.

The BJP has suffered a major setback in Bengal, despite its monopoly power and manipulation. Bengal very clearly rejected the idea of communal polarization. The performance of the CPI (M) and the Left was utterly disappointing. The people’s zeal to defeat the BJP led to a sharp polarization between the Trinamool and the BJP and made the United Front irrelevant. A very serious self-critical review of the defeat will be conducted and the necessary lessons will be learned.

Tamil Nadu
The DMK-led front has had great success in Tamil Nadu. AIADMK – The Tamil people who rejected the BJP alliance overthrew the AIADMK government.

The BJP has been able to retain power only in Assam. However, there is no big difference in the vote share between the BJP alliance and the grand alliance comprising the Left, the PB said in a statement.
