Face mask; Azhikode again without movement

Kannur: Muslim League leader KM Shaji has once again confronted the voters of Azhikode constituency in a derogatory manner. Shaji is upset that his own ugly face has been exposed. He was trying hard to change the constituency till the last moment. He tried to take over Kasargod, Kalamassery and Perinthalmanna but was rejected everywhere and was finally forced to accept Azhikode.

A leader who stands on his feet to go to jail in corruption and illicit property cases. In the last election, the High Court canceled the election itself for spreading communal hatred. He was also disqualified from contesting elections for six years. The High Court gave a similar verdict in two petitions filed by MV Nikesh Kumar of the LDF and Balan, a voter in the constituency.

Shaji is seeking re-election only on the basis that the Supreme Court has granted him stay. The Supreme Court granted stay in November 2018 with strict conditions. As an MLA, you can attend the assembly session but do not have the right to vote. Benefits should not be taken. It is noteworthy that he was able to approach the Supreme Court after paying the court expenses of half a lakh rupees to be paid to Nikesh Kumar.

What confuses Shaji more than this is the Plus Two bribery case and the illicit property acquisition case. Vigilance is submitting a preliminary report to the court on a complaint that a bribe of Rs 25 lakh was taken from the management for allotting a higher secondary course to Azhikode High School during the last UDF rule. Kuduvan Padmanabhan, a CPI (M) leader and former president of the Kannur Block Panchayat, had lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister. Vigilance has received evidence and testimonies to substantiate the complaint.

Following Vigilance, the Enforcement Directorate, which investigated Shaji’s illicit property acquisition, also received shocking information. Shaji was further ridiculed for claiming that he earned crores of rupees through ginger cultivation.
