Thiruvananthapuram: Famous cinematographer and director Shivan has passed away. He was 89 years old. He died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram following a heart attack.
He was active in various fields like cinema, literature, drama and documentary. It has won three National Film Awards. The political lives of many leaders, from Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru onwards, were captured on camera. Shrimp was the still photographer of the movie. He is the owner of Sivans Studio, established in 1959 in Thiruvananthapuram.
He was the first Government Press Photographer in Travancore, Travancore and later in Kerala. He was the photographer of many important moments including the swearing in of the first cabinet of Kerala.
He was the director of Abhayam, the first children’s film in Malayalam. The main films are Dream, Sacrifice, Little Desires, The Window, The Hair, and A Journey.
Shiva is the second of six children of Gopal Pillai in Harippad and Bhavaniamma in Vettuvilanjathil. His wife is the late Chandramani. Directors and cinematographers Santhosh Sivan, Sangeeth Sivan, Sanjeev Sivan and Saritha Rajeev have children Jaya Sri, Deepa, Deepthi and Rajeev. They are children.
