Fifth stage today in Bum Gal; The CPI (M) avoided large rallies

In the fifth phase in West Bengal, 45 constituencies in six districts will go to the polls on Saturday. There are 319 candidates in the fray, including 39 women. The campaign ended 72 hours before the fourth Seattle shooting.

Voting will take place in Darjeeling, Kurshiyang, Jalpaiguri, Bardhaman, North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts. Trinamool Gorkha supports Janamukti Morcha candidates in three constituencies in Darjeeling. Until recently, the GJM was the BJP’s number one party.

Trinamool has disrupted the campaign of Shyamali Pradhan, MLA and CPI (M) candidate from Nanur constituency in Birbhum district. He threatened to shake hands with those who voted for the CPI (M).
