Deep Narayanan, nephew of Ayodhya Mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay, bought the land in February for Rs 20 lakh and sold it three months later to the Ram Temple Trust for Rs 2.5 crore. Narayanan, who is also a BJP activist, bought 890 square meters of land from Devendra Prasadacharya for Rs 20 lakh. The base price fixed by the government is Rs 35.6 lakh. The land was sold to the trust on May 11. The ‘News Laundry’ news portal also released the documents of the two sales and the transfer of Rs 2.5 crore to Narayanan through RTGS on May 11. On February 20, Narayanan sold another 676.86 sq m of land to the Ram Temple Trust for Rs 1 crore.
Frauds in land deals by the Ram Temple Trust had come to light earlier. The 1.2-hectare plot of land bought by Sultan Ansari and Ravi Mohan Tiwari from Harish Pathak and Kusum Pathak on March 18 for Rs 2 crore was sold to the Ram Temple Trust in a short span of time for Rs 18.5 crore last week. Tiwari is a close relative of Mayor Upadhyay. Harish, the accused in several cases, has been declared a fugitive by the UP police. The mayor said he would not comment on the allegations and that everyone in Ayodhya was related to him.
