The National Investigation Agency has arrested one of the masterminds of the gold smuggling case. PH Mohammad Mansoor (37 – Manju) from Kallurutty, Thiruvambadi, Kozhikode was arrested. He was one of the first to help Faisal Fareed smuggle gold through Dubai-based diplomatic luggage.
Mansoor, who arrived in Karipur from Dubai on Wednesday morning, was arrested by the NIA. He was produced in court and remanded in NIA custody for five days. The 35th accused in the case. The NIA court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for him. According to the NIA, Mansoor had helped another accused, Mohammad Shafi, to smuggle gold from the UAE to Kerala in a diplomatic bag. Mansoor’s role was clear from the information provided by the witness in the gold smuggling. Mansoor has been in Dubai for a year.
Mansoor was remanded in NIA custody till June 14. This is the 22nd arrest in a gold smuggling case. The NIA had in January filed a chargesheet against 20 accused. The NIA has found six people absconding in Dubai. On July 5, 2020, customs seized 30 kg of gold at the Thiruvananthapuram Air Cargo Airport. The case was later registered by the NIA.
