The BJP authorities in Karnataka has issued an ordinance to present impact to the controversial anti-conversion invoice handed by the Meeting in December. Though handed by the Legislature, the Invoice has not but reached the Legislative Council. The BJP is one seat wanting a majority within the council. It was on this context that the ordinance was unexpectedly issued.
The ordinance comprises provisions that complicate the method of conversion and prescribe extreme punishment. The penalty for “forced” conversion is three to 5 years in jail and a positive of Rs 25,000.
Conversion of minors, ladies or Scheduled Tribes is punishable by as much as 10 years imprisonment and a positive of Rs 50,000. Mass conversion is punishable by imprisonment for 3 to 10 years and a positive of as much as Rs 1 lakh.
The ordinance was authorized by the Cupboard on Thursday. Legislation Minister JC Madhuswamy claimed that the legislation protects the fitting to freedom of faith. However the opposition got here out in robust protest towards the federal government’s hasty ordinance transfer.
