Chennai: The CPI (M) has won two seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. CPI (M) candidates M Chinnadura and VP Nagaimali, who contested in the DMK alliance, won a resounding victory.
Chinnadura won from Gandharvakottai, a reserved constituency with a majority of 13,592 votes. Gandharvakottai is from Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency.
Meanwhile, VP Nagaimali (P Mahalingam), who contested from Keezhvelur (reservation) constituency, won by 17,234 votes. Keezvelur is a constituency which includes Keez Venmani where 44 dalits including women and children were burnt to death in 1968 for mobilizing in the CPI (M) -led agrarian labor strike
The CPI (M) had won the first elections in 2011 after the formation of the Keezhvelur constituency. Nagaimali was the winner.
