Indian women’s player Shefali Verma created history in Test cricket on Thursday, on the second day of the one-off Test between India women’s cricket team and England women’s team being played in Bristol, England. 17-year-old Shefali has played a valuable innings of 96 runs in 152 balls in India’s first innings. With this innings, he broke a 26-year-old record. With this, Shefali has become the first Indian woman cricketer to score the most runs for India in the debut test.

According to the ICC’s official Twitter handle, before Shefali, the record for scoring the most runs in an innings of a debut Test for India was held by C. Kaul. He made this record by scoring 75 runs in his first Test in February 1995. However, Shefali Verma missed her maiden century by just four runs.

Earlier on the second day, the Indian team scored 187 runs for 5 wickets at the end of the second day’s play in response to England’s first innings innings of 396 runs for 9 wickets.
