The final match of the ICC World Test Championship was to be played between India and New Zealand in Southampton from Friday, but the match could not start due to rain on the first day of the match. The first day’s play was washed out after incessant rain. The umpires, after inspecting the ground, decided to cancel the first day’s play. The toss could not even take place due to rain in the match.

According to the official Twitter handle of BCCI, the first day’s play on Friday has been washed out due to rain in Southampton. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given this information through Twitter. About an hour before the match, the match officials reached the ground with an umbrella for inspection. Sharing the photo of The Ages Bowl Stadium in Southampton on Twitter, BCCI wrote, Good morning from Southampton. We are about an hour before the scheduled start of the match, but it is still drizzling. The match officials are on the field.

It is worth noting that after the final match between India and New Zealand in the World Test Championship, the best team in Test will be selected. The team winning this title will grab the mace of the Test matches.
