Jammu and Kashmir: 6 students drown, 5 rescued, 3 missing after boat capsizes in Jhelum river

Srinagar: Six college students drowned, whereas 5 have been rescued and three went lacking after a ship capsized in Jhelum river in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar district on Tuesday.

A ship carrying 14 folks, principally college students, capsized within the Jhelum river close to Batawara Srinagar on Tuesday, an official mentioned.

“The boat was carrying minor students to a local school when it capsized, resulting in the death of six students, while five students were rescued and three are still missing. A massive rescue operation has been launched by SDRF, NDRF, local police and local people,” he mentioned.

He mentioned that 12 college students have been pulled out of the river and brought to hospital.

“Six have been declared lifeless on arrival, whereas 5 others have been admitted for therapy. The search remains to be on to hint the three lacking college students.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the incident.

He mentioned that the administration is offering all potential help to the bereaved households who’ve misplaced their family members and medical services are being offered to those that have been injured.

“Marcos teams have also been put on alert. I am constantly monitoring the situation and guiding the team on the ground,” LG wrote on Twitter.
