Railway Board Chairman Suneet Sharma has said that services will not be suspended or curtailed despite the rising number of Kovid victims. More trains will run if needed. He also said that reports that Kovid needed a negative certificate to travel on the train were baseless. With the intensification of the second phase of Kovid, guest workers are returning home en masse in many states. With this, Suneet Sharma’s explanation is that large crowds are common in the stations.
Control in the states
Rajasthan has directed those coming from Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala to produce RT-PCR negative certificates not older than three days. Tamil Nadu has made it mandatory for train travelers from states other than Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Puducherry to have e-registration. The Assam government has ordered those coming and going from Maharashtra and Karnataka to undergo inspections at railway stations. Train passengers will have to follow such guidelines.
