Kozhikode: A textile shop inaugurated three days ago caught fire. The Mammas Papas textile shop near the Kuruvattooru panchayat bus stand in Parambil Bazaar was set on fire at 2.30 am on Thursday. The shop owner, Parambil Bazar resident Nijas Chevayur, lodged a complaint with the police alleging that there was suspicion in the incident.

The shop has been open for the past five years. Fabrics, furniture and electronic devices stored in the two-storey shop were completely burnt out. Four lakh rupees received from the previous day’s sale was also burnt. The shop owner Nijas said the loss was estimated at Rs 1.1 crore. Nijas said the shop was set on fire by four people who arrived in a vehicle.

This is evident in the CCTV footage of a nearby shop. He has been in the textile business for many years. Nijas said he was not hostile to anyone and did not know the reason behind the incident. The footage has been handed over to the police. Chevayur police registered a case.
