ATS had earlier began investigating the case, later transferred to NIA

The matter was initially investigated by the Maharashtra Anti -Terrorism Squad (ATS), which was transferred to the NIA in 2011. The NIA filed a cost sheet in 2016 after taking the case into its personal palms, giving a clear chit to Thakur and three different accused Shyam Sahu, Praveen Takalki and Shivnarayan Kalsangra, saying that no proof was discovered towards them and they need to be freed within the case. The NIA court docket, nevertheless, freed Sahu, Kalsangra and Takalki and dominated that Sadhvi Pragya Thakur must face trial.
