Mar Joseph Pamplani has been appointed Archbishop of Kakkanad> Thalassery Archdiocese and Mar Peter Kochupuraikkal has been appointed Bishop of Palakkad Diocese. The election was held on January 7, 2022 at Mount Synod, Mount Kakkanad, Kakkanad. The official announcement was made on the Vatican on Saturday at 12 midday Roman time and at 4.30 pm Indian time on the Sermon on the Mount in Kakkanad by Major Archbishop Episcopal Curia.
The announcement was made by Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alencherry of the Seromalabar Church at Mount St. Thomas, Kakkanad. After the announcement, Mar Alencherry, Archbishop of Thalassery Mar George Nharalakkad and Bishop of Palakkad Mar Jacob Manathottam congratulated the appointed fathers by giving them bouquets. Fathers, monks, sisters and nuns attending the Syro-Malabar Synod had been current on the event.
Mar Pamplani, Archbishop of the Thalassery Archdiocese, was born in Pamplani on December 3, 1969, the fifth of seven kids born to the Thomas-Mary couple. He’s a member of Charal Parish in Thalassery Archdiocese. Gravel l. P. College, Kilianthara U. P. He accomplished his education and highschool training, his undergraduate diploma from Nirmalagiri Faculty and his diploma from the University of Kerala. He joined the Thalassery Minor Seminary for clerical coaching. He was then ordained Archbishop of St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Aluva, on December 30, 1997. He then served as Assistant Vicar of Peravoor Church and Vicar of Deepagiri Parish.
The Archbishop, who arrived in Belgium in 2001 to pursue increased research, holds a bachelor’s diploma and a doctorate in biblical research from the celebrated Louvain Catholic University. In 2006 he returned residence and was appointed Director of the Thalassery Bible Apostolate. Bishop Pamplani, the founding father of the Alpha Institute, has been a Visiting Professor on the main seminaries at Aluva, Vadavathur, Kunnoth, St. Mary’s, Thiruvananthapuram and St. Peter’s, Bangalore. Appointed Archbishop, a famend theologian, preacher, meditation guru and creator of many books, has been the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Thalassery since November 8, 2017. Apart from Malayalam, he’s fluent in English, German, Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Mar Joseph Pamplani has been appointed to fill the emptiness created by the resignation of Thalassery Archdiocese President Mar George Nharalakkad.
Mar Peter Kochupurakkal has been appointed because the third Bishop of the Diocese of Palakkad. He was born on May 29, 1964 in Marangoli Parish, Pala Diocese. His mother and father had been the late Mani and Elikutty. He joined the Minor Seminary of the Diocese of Palakkad in 1981 and studied philosophy and theology at St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Aluva. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 29, 1990 by His Holiness Joseph Pallikkaparambil. He has served in varied parishes within the Diocese of Palakkad and has served as President of the Church Courtroom, Chancellor of the Diocese, Vicar General and Rector of the Minor Seminary.
Appointed Bishop of St. Peter’s Institute, Bangalore, he holds a doctorate from the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome. Apart from Malayalam, he’s fluent in English, German and Italian. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Palakkad on January 15, 2020 and was anointed on June 18, 2020. Mar Peter Kochupuraikkal has been appointed to fill the emptiness created by the retirement of Mar Jacob Manathottam, the Diocese of Palakkad. The dates for the ordination of the appointed fathers can be determined later.
