Choksi, who is wanted in India in the Rs 13,500-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan fraud case, went missing from Antigua on May 23. He was later caught in Dominica on 27 May.
A court in Dominica has stayed Choksi’s deportation until further orders while hearing a habeas corpus filed by lawyers for Choksi. The matter will be heard on Wednesday.
Earlier, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the major opposition party in the island nation – the UPP – have clashed against each other over the issue of sending Choksi back to India. (ED) as desired. An eight-member team of CBI, ED, Ministry of External Affairs and CRPF has been camping in Dominica since Saturday. The team is present there with documents related to Choksi’s case.
