The non-attendance of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar at a gathering convened by the federal government to carry talks with farmers’ organizations in Punjab has led to large protests. Farmers chanted slogans contained in the Ministry of Agriculture and boycotted the assembly. Copies of anti-farmer legal guidelines had been torn up and thrown away.

The assembly was attended by 35 representatives from 29 farmers’ organizations. 5 officers from the federal government, together with the agriculture secretary. Farmers’ leaders stated they’d come to not focus on the best way to implement the brand new legislation however to demand that it not be applied. Officers can’t say the legislation won’t be enforced. The legislation was made by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture. “I’ve come to demand the repeal of the legislation,” he stated.
