Palakkad: In the last assembly elections, the BJP came second in the Malampuzha constituency. Instead, the BJP will help the Congress back in Palakkad and Harippad. Congress workers took to the streets against this. A protest convention was also organized at Malampuzha Puthussery.
BJP’s C Krishnakumar came second in the Malampuzha seat won by VS Achuthanandan in the 2016 assembly elections. UDF candidate VS Joy was relegated to third position. The vote for that seat was also given to the BJP, a constituent party of the Bharatiya National Janata Dal. In the Harippad constituency, the LDF had won the last local body election by 1,700 votes. There, Ramesh Chennithala’s condition is deteriorating. Malampuzha assured the BJP that it would win Harippad. In the 2016 assembly elections, the BJP had lost votes to the Congress in the Palakkad constituency and to the Congress-BJP in Malampuzha.
A KPCC office bearer told ‘Deshabhimani’ that Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala knew about the vote-trading in Malampuzha. Meanwhile, riots broke out in the BJP over the defeat of E Sreedharan in the Palakkad constituency.
The BJP’s victory was due to the fact that the Congress, which came in third in 2011, gave the constituency to the Janata Dal in 2016. The UDF candidate got only 13,000 votes here. The Congress is preparing for the same model experiment in Malampuzha. The conspiracy reveals that the candidate of the Bharatiya National Janata Dal, John John, had revealed that he had not asked for the Malampuzha seat and had called the Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala and asked him to contest in the Malampuzha seat. They have also clarified that it was not Malampuzha but Elathur that was demanded.
