Nomth finds ‘giant’ in BJP; Uttarammutty Congress‌

Thiruvananthapuram: While the Congress leaders were bragging that Nemmat would come down hard to fight against the BJP, the person who was considered for the same seat joined the BJP, which was a heavy blow to the Congress. KPCC general secretary Vijayan Thomas resigned and joined the BJP after senior leader PC Chacko left the party. While the Congress leaders were discussing their seats in Delhi, Vijayan Thomas approached the Sangh Parivar at the BJP headquarters not far away. He also hinted that he would be the BJP candidate.

For the first time in the history of the state, the BJP had fielded an MLA in the last assembly elections, but the Nemtu Congress votes were reversed. The Congress leaders are saying that this time Nemmat Vampane will be brought down to cover up the shame of this. Even Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and K Muraleedharan were campaigning to save the Congress. Vijayan Thomas, who was to be the Congress candidate in Nemtu, decided on his own decision when the High Command discussions were going on indefinitely. He also announced that many more senior leaders in Kerala would join the BJP from the Congress.

Pandalam Prathapan, a senior Congress leader and brother of Pandalam Sudhakaran, had joined the BJP a few days back. Following this, PC Chacko shocked the leadership and left the Congress. As in other states, successive Congress leaders left the party and joined the BJP without any hesitation, putting the KPCC leadership in crisis. Last week, KPCC Working President K Sudhakaran had said that most people from the Congress were going to the BJP and that they would step down when they saw that it did not exist. Sudhakaran is vying for the post of KCC president after fielding Mullappally Ramachandran.
