ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday rejected India’s criticism over its failure to prosecute and punish Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists chargeable for the 26 November 2008 Mumbai terror assaults, saying it ought to look into the matter. An efficient settlement would require “concrete and legal evidence”.
Delivering the inaugural handle at a particular assembly of the UN Safety Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee in Mumbai, Exterior Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday mentioned the principle perpetrators of the Mumbai terror assaults, together with Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, are “still protected”. and so they haven’t been punished. “A terrorist (Ajmal Kasab) was caught alive, sentenced by the Supreme Court of India, while the main perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks are still protected and not punished. Jaishankar said that when steps were taken to ban some terrorists, in some cases the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) could not act “regretfully, on account of political causes”. He mentioned this in a transparent reference to China, which has on a number of events obstructed UNSC resolutions to ban Pakistani terrorists.
