Popular Oriya singer Tappu Mishra dies of complications after COVID-19
Popular Odia playback singer Tapu Mishra passed away due to complications following COVID-19. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, as the family informs the media on Sunday.
The 36-year-old father also succumbed to COVID-19 on Sunday this year. After which now the singer breathed her last on Saturday night. He was put on ventilator support after his oxygen level dropped from 45 two days ago. His lungs were also badly damaged. Hospital sources said that he was admitted on May 19. The state culture department had sanctioned Rs 1 lakh from the Artists Welfare Fund for his treatment. Also, his family members were planning to shift him to Kolkata for ECMO treatment. The Oriya film industry had also started raising funds for Mishra’s treatment. He had also sung many bhajans in his career spanning two decades. As news of his death spread across the state, fans poured out condolences from different quarters.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also took to Twitter and wrote, “Saddened to learn about the passing away of popular Odia singer Tapu Mishra. Her memories as a singer will always be remembered in the Odia music world. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."
