Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced major relief in Corona restrictions after the Covid positivity rate in the state dropped to 2 per cent. Under the new guideline, restaurants and other eateries as well as cinemas and gyms have been allowed to open with 50 per cent capacity.
Under the new guidelines applicable till June 25, the Chief Minister has announced to increase the number of persons to 50 in general meetings including weddings and cremations. Also, daily night curfew will be in force from 8 pm to 5 am. There will be a curfew on weekends from 8 pm on Saturday to 5 am on Monday. However, all essential activities, including the existing relaxations, will remain unaffected by the curfew restrictions.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, while presiding over a high-level virtual COVID review meeting on Tuesday, ordered opening of all restaurants including hotels, cafes, coffee shops, fast food outlets, dhabas etc. Along with this, cinemas and gyms have also been ordered to open with a maximum of 50 percent of their capacity. AC buses can also run with 50 percent occupancy. However, bars, pubs and inns and all educational institutions will remain closed for now.
In the new guidelines, the district authorities have been asked to fix the opening timings of non-essential shops, including Sundays, depending on the local situation. It has also been asked to ensure that crowding is avoided. In the second wave of corona, 9,100 cases were registered in the state on May 8, which came down to a low of 629 on Monday.
