Shimla: Protesters demanding the removing of alleged unlawful building at a mosque in Shimla's Sanjauli space broke police barricades, forcing the police to resort to lathicharge and water cannon on Wednesday. The protesters gathered at Sabzi Mandi Dhalli and marched in direction of Sanjauli, elevating slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hindu Ekta Zindabad”. They broke barricades erected close to the Dhalli tunnel and broken one other barricade close to the mosque. Following the incident, the police resorted to lathicharge and used water cannon to regulate them. Police deployment has been beefed up in Sanjauli and adjoining areas, and the Shimla district administration has issued prohibitory orders beneath Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, which prohibits meeting of 5 or extra individuals and possession of arms. Some Hindu organisations have referred to as for a Sanjauli bandh, demanding the removing of the unlawful disputed construction and registration of outsiders.
