Supreme Court expressed displeasure over 1,456 vacant seats in NEET-PG, said – will pass orders if not given to students

The Supreme Court docket on Wednesday slammed the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for 1,456 vacant seats in NEET-PG 2021, saying it can cross orders and compensate them if college students will not be admitted. Justice MR. Shah and Justice Aniruddha Bose advised the counsel for MCC that even when a seat stays vacant in a single course. It’s your responsibility to see that they don’t stay empty.”

The apex court bench was annoyed to learn that 1,456 seats in medical colleges remained vacant in the 2021-22 session. He said that the MCC and the Center are playing with the lives of the students by not conducting the mop up round of counseling for the students. MCC’s counsel submitted that the order would have a cascading effect in the matter and requested the court to allow him to put on record an affidavit to explain the matter.

The top court said the country needs doctors and super-specialty professionals and told the counsel for MCC that if the students are not admitted, it will pass an order and also compensate them. The top court directed the officials concerned to be present in the court tomorrow when it will pass orders in the matter.

“We are going to cross orders to pay compensation. Who’s chargeable for this example? Name your officer tomorrow,” the bench said. The bench further said, “We’d like docs. Why is there no efficient system? Have you learnt the stress degree of scholars and oldsters?” The bench allowed MCC’s counsel to file his affidavit during the day and asserted, “These are crucial issues regarding the rights of the scholars.”

The petition, filed through advocate Kunal Cheema, states that, “The petitioner is compelled to method this court docket, as the dear medical seats are being stuffed incomplete/wrongly and benefit casualties are being brought on,” the petition said.
