Supreme Court move unfortunate; The nature of the place of worship law must be maintained: CPI (M)

New Delhi: The CPI (M) Politburo has said that the move by the Supreme Court to review the 1991 Act, which stipulates that all places of worship should be maintained, is unfortunate. The law states that places of worship should remain as they were on August 15, 1947, and that there should be no lawsuits or lawsuits in this regard.

This law helped to reduce the number of cases of disputes over places of worship. When the 1991 law was enacted, the Ayodhya land was in dispute and only that place of worship was exempted from the law.

The apex court bench which passed the Ayodhya judgment in 2019 had specifically observed that in the context of the 1991 Act, such matters as the Ayodhya case should not be encouraged. There is no need to reconsider this. In this context, the Politburo opined that the Central Government should submit to the Supreme Court a reply which highlights the relevance of the law.
