The Supreme Court collegium split without a decision

New Delhi
The apex court, headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde, who is due to retire in a few days, split without a decision. It has joined to recommend people to the vacancies of judges in the Supreme Court and various High Courts.

Legal circles have reacted by saying that the collegium meeting, led by Bobday, who is retiring on the 23rd of this month, is an ‘extraordinary move’. After the appointment of Justice NV Ramana as the next Chief Justice, the collegium was hastily convened by the present Chief Justice, which led to criticism. It is also noteworthy that Justice NV Ramana was on leave on Thursday. In this case, some members of the collegium disagreed.

The collegium met earlier in the third week of March. In addition to Chief Justice SA Bobday, Justices NV Ramana, RF Nariman, UU Lalith and AM Khanwilker are members of the Supreme Court collegium.
