Disha Ravi’s bail order strongly criticizes abuse of treason law ‘In any democracy, citizens are the guardians of the conscience of the government. Patiala House Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana pointed out that they should not be put in an iron cage for opposing government policies.
‘The sedition law should not be used as a panacea for the government’s wounds. Disagreements, disagreements, divisions, and oppositions can be turned into tools to make government policies more objective. Wise, conscious and vigilant citizens are the hallmarks of a healthy democracy, “the court observed.
It is not a crime to create or edit a toolkit for peasant agitation. There is no evidence that Disha and his cohorts tried to unleash violence under the guise of agitation and that they pursued separatist ideologies. Therefore, the custody of the 22-year-old, who has no criminal background, could not be extended, the judge said.
Disha was produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Tuesday following the end of police custody. The Delhi Police had sought an extension of custody for four more days but the ACMM rejected the application on the ground that the Additional Sessions Judge had granted bail.
