This promotion will give Indian chess a boost; Viswanathan Anand as FIDE Chess Vice President

Chennai: Viswanathan Anand has been elected because the Vice President of FIDE (Worldwide Chess Federation), the biggest international chess group that organizes worldwide chess competitions together with the Chess Olympiad.

Arkady Vorkovich himself was re-elected as president. Within the presidential election, Arkady defeated the Grand Grasp of Ukraine Andriy Baryshpolets by 157 votes to 16.

“Chess is a part of who I am. As a chess player, I am blessed to have seen chess evolve from a niche game to a popular game. I am happy to work with Arkady to continue this positive change.” – Anand tweeted.

“I want to attract new youth to chess and expand the footprint of Indian chess globally. This is necessary for the long-term growth of chess. It is necessary to grow chess in India too. Because India is an important country and an important market. Many people play chess. But it needs to be developed,” mentioned Anand.

Anand added that he had been enjoying chess for a while and was attempting to get some chess mastery.
