TN Police commence sealing of PFI offices in state

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Police have commenced sealing the places of work of the banned Common Entrance of India (PFI) within the state after Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu issued a notification terming the Common Entrance and its associates as “Unlawful Associations”.

The Tamil Nadu state authorities has additionally delegated the powers underneath the Illegal Actions (Prevention) Act 1967 to the commissioners of police within the cities and district collectors in different areas.

In an order, the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu stated, “The governor of Tamil Nadu hereby directs that all the powers of which are exercisable by the government of Tamil Nadu under sections 7 and 8 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act , 1967 in relation to the aforesaid unlawful association, namely Popular Front of India and its associates or affiliates or fronts including the organizations banned shall also be exercised by the commissioners of police in the cities and by the district collectors elsewhere.”

Notably, the frontal organizations of the Common Entrance of India which were banned from functioning for 5 years are Rehab India Basis, Nationwide Girls’s Entrance, All India Imams Council, Campus Entrance of India, Rehab Basis, Kerala, Junior Entrance, Empower India Basis and Confederation of Human Rights Organizations.

Tamil Nadu police, together with district collectors, have commenced sealing the places of work of the banned group after the order of the Chief Secretary was served to them.

The Common Entrance of India cadres are quiet and there has not been any protests whereas the places of work in just a few districts had been sealed as those that shout slogans for the PFI could be charged instantly underneath the UAPA.

In Kerala, some PFI staff had been arrested and charged underneath UAPA after they shouted slogans, and therefore the PFI and SDPI cadres in Tamil Nadu are silent as if they’re arrested by the police, they might be charged with sedition underneath the UAPA.
