CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Water Works Division which is sustaining the Parambikkum dam in Kerala will exchange its broken shutter inside a interval of 10 days.
Sources within the Water Sources Division instructed IANS that one of many three shutters of the dam located in Palakkad, Kerala was washed away on September 21.
The heavy rains within the catchment areas of the dam after the northeast monsoon have led to the delay within the completion of the work of the shutter of the dam.
The Tamil Nadu Water Sources Division has already awarded the contract for alternative of the shutter at a value of Rs 7.05 crore to a Tamil Nadu-based contracting agency.
After the shutter was washed away, 16000 cusecs of water have been discharged in the direction of the Athirapally river inflicting water stage to rise within the river. The Tamil Nadu Water Sources Division had arrange a deadline of October 20 for changing the shutter. Nevertheless, incessant rains within the catchment space led to the delay in alternative of shutter within the dam.
Tamil Nadu Water Sources Minister S. Duraimurugan and Electricity minister Senthil Balaji inspected the Parambikkulam dam web site after the shutter was washed away.
