US counterterrorism official visiting India for working group meeting


NEW YORK: The US State Division’s counterterrorism official Timothy Betts will likely be visiting India subsequent week for the US-India Counterterrorism Joint Working Group’s annual assembly.

Betts, who’s the division’s performing coordinator for counterterrorism, will lead the US delegation on the assembly on December 12-13.

The nineteenth assembly of the Joint Working Group will “review regional and global terrorist threat assessments, collaborative bilateral and regional counterterrorism programming, and initiatives to strengthen law enforcement and judicial partnerships”, the Division mentioned on Thursday.

The group met in Washington in October 2021.

Betts was in Japan on Thursday for trilateral counterterrorism discussions with senior officers from Australia and Japan specializing in “the current terrorism landscape, including persistent threats in the Indo-Pacific”, the division mentioned.

Earlier than going to India, Betts is to cease over in Manila for talks on counterterrorism cooperation and safety partnership between the 2 nations, it added.
